New Year, New You?

It’s that time of year when everyone is making their new year resolutions. Whether that be to ditch the booze, get more exercise or, of course, the most common of all, to diet.

January is the most miserable of all months so why we choose to burden ourselves with the additional pressure of trying to cut out what little joy we do get remains a mystery. Indeed, across all our shops, be it Market Deeping, Stamford or Bourne, the pattern is the same. It is all chicken breast no skin, turkey mince and our very special low-fat sausages to start the year. By the end of January though, pie sales, sausage rolls and our award-winning Lincolnshire sausages are back on plates.

Our motto at Grasmere Farm is all things in moderation, and the single best approach to one’s diet, is to maintain a good balance. Whether the aim is to try and lose weight, training for an event or simply to eat healthier, your friends at Grasmere Farm have the ingredients, and knowledge, to ensure your new year mealtimes are not the usual January bland fest!

WHAT MEAT SHOULD I BE EATING?

Meat is a good source of protein, vitamins and minerals in your diet. Lean meats are meats with a relatively low-fat content. Skinless chicken and turkey and red meat, such as pork chops, with the fat trimmed off are examples of lean meat. Before you turn your back on beef, lamb and pork though, red meat provides us with iron, zinc and B vitamins and is one of the main sources of vitamin B12 in the diet.

DON’T FORGET YOUR 5 A DAY!

Fruit and vegetables are part of a healthy, balanced diet and can help you stay healthy. It’s important that you eat enough of them. Evidence shows there are significant health benefits to getting at least 5 portions of a variety of fruit and vegetables every day. That’s 5 portions of fruit and veg in total, not 5 portions of each. A portion of fruit or vegetables is 80g.

A wide range of fresh, seasonal fruit and veg is available at Market Gate Deli, Market Deeping and The Old Bakehouse in Bourne.
